WELCOME!

A bit about me...

Welcome and thanks for dropping by!  As an performer I’ve always thought that a working actor needs to be versatile…so that’s why you’ll find not just info here on my screen and theatre work, but radio and voice acting. (No podcast yet!!)

Now I act mostly in film and TV, appearing in supporting and principal roles for Hallmark, Lifetime, GAC Family, NBC Universal/E!, Netflix, Disney, as well series (Family Law, the L Word, Arrow, Motive, etc.). I also enjoy acting in small independent films. You can hear me in animation (Gigantosaurus, Barbie, Polly Pocket, etc), documentaries, as well as in hundreds of commercials.

I began my acting journey in theatre, performing in a range of productions from Shakespeare to the iconic role of Amanda Wingfield in Tennessee William’s classic "The Glass Menagerie". In my early years I juggled a stage career with broadcasting - often literally running from the theatre to a radio station to work an all-night shift as a DJ!

My work in the broadcasting is extensive. During the 80's I was one of Canada's first female rock radio DJ's at a time when this was considered ground-breaking. At Toronto's top rock station Q107 under my on-air name of Dusty Shannon, I honed my skills as an interviewer, writer, and producer of radio programs eventually syndicating various programs across Canada, the United States and parts of Europe. Somewhere in there I snuck in a stint as a TV host and reporter.

And now I continue my love for the craft by sharing what I know with others as a teacher and coach!

Teaching & Mentoring

A huge passion for the past 12+ years is teaching and coaching emerging and experienced actors through my Acting Mindfully Lab – where I combine mindfulness practice with scene work.  As well as being a Certified Mindfulness Instructor,  I’m also a Certified Life Coach, trained in Mental Health First Aid, and am a member of the Association of Acting Coaches and Educators (AACE) with the mandate of building safe and respectful learning environments.

I am grateful to live and work on the  traditional, unceded territory of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples, now represented by the Songhees and Esquimalt (Xʷsepsəm) Nations,

and the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples (Tsartlip, Pauquachin, Tsawout, Tseycum and Malahat Nations) who have stewarded these lands and waters since time immemorial.
